De La Hoya puts foot in Mouth
By Moncayo Blackbull
IB (August 4, 2008) - Oscar de la Hoya, once a proud stand up warrior like a Lion, King of beast, ready to face anyone they put in front of him has reduced himself to a Hyena, waiting for others to fight the battles while he waits for the easy pickings.
De La
Hoya said a fight with the winner of Miguel Cotto and Antonio Margarito would be
a great way to end his career on December 6 but had second thoughts after
Margarito defeated Cotto. De La Hoya told Bob Arum that he would not consider a
fight with Margarito because he doesn't want to end his career by fighting
another Mexican.
De La Hoya did not have a problem beating the crap out of Mexican legend Julio Cesar Chavez twice, I might add an aging Chavez. By not taking the fight against Margarito, De La Hoya is only denying the Mexican people the opportunity to even the score.
Let’s talk about the “easy pickings”, De La Hoya is moving forward to seal a match against Manny Pacquiao, now everyone out there will argue with me as far as Pacquiao being but easy pickings as they should. Pacquiao is anything but easy pickings but what makes this the fight of choice for De La Hoya is the difference in size. De La Hoya stands a good 5’10” where Pacquiao is listed at 5’6.5” and realistically 5’5” (You know, it’s a man thing to want to be bigger).
Now if this fight were going to be held at a weight of 130-135 lbs. we’d have a different story.
If indeed De La Hoya is sincere in not wanting to fight another Mexican, then what’s wrong with Kelly Pavlik , too tough, too big? Or how about the older guys, Roy Jones or Antonio Tarver, no we won’t see this, you see for De La Hoya, its ok for Pacquiao to move up in weight but not for him.
If De La Hoya’s looking for a good farewell fight and don’t want to fight another Mexican, allow me to assist… The Punisher
Paul Williams is a champion, no problem there. Williams beat Margarito, can’t say he’s not worthy. Williams nor De La Hoya would have to make any weight adjustments, no conflict there.
Now to put a cap on this burning oil well, Margarito can and should have no problem agreeing to fight the victor of a Williams – De La Hoya contest. By doing this Margartito will certainly cement De La Hoya’s retirement because if for some reason De La Hoya should defeat Williams, there would no way he’ll fight Margarito.
Michael Katz, what was that nick name you had for De La Hoya?
