Los Angeles, CA – (IB) – As the crowd was making their way into the Staple Center in anticipating the main event between Vitali Klitschko and Cristobal Arreola, Cedric Boswell (31-1, 24 Kos) cruised to a unanimous decision victory over Cisse Salif (23-16, 21 Kos) in an eight-round heavyweight bout to kick off this evening of boxing.

Boswell, from Atlanta, Georgia was originally scheduled to be in the co-main event against undefeated Russian fighter Alexander Ustinov (17-0, 14 KOs) but that fight fell through due to visa clearance from Ustinov to make it to the USA.

Nevertheless, Cedric did what he had to do by clearing winning a unanimous decision by scores of 80-72 from all three judges.

What’s next for Boswell?  Well, he is a  fighter that is loaded with talent and its really going to come down to him remaining active and getting in the ring with the top tier opponents to validate that he belongs at the top in the heavyweight division.   While tonight’s fight may have not done anything to enhance that effort, it didn’t take anything away from Boswell’s status either.

With Cedric being 40 years of age, if he is going to make his mark, he will have to be aggressive with his approach and it require taking on fights with significant risk, even if the terms are not totally what he would prefer.  He is in need of a victory that will bring him some bargaining chips and it’s unfortunate that he didn’t get that chance tonight against Ustinov.
