Andranik Hakobyan Set For WBF Intercontinental Clash

(December 8, 2021) – Former Swiss national champion Andranik Hakobyan, 15-1-2 (6), is set to fight for the vacant World Boxing Federation (WBF) Intercontinental Welterweight title on Saturday, December 11, in Baden, Switzerland.

At the Trafo Halle, the 32-year-old Armenian-born fighter will take on undefeated Italian Alessandro Fersula, who comes in from Rome with a 6-0 (1) record.

Hakobyan turned pro in 2015, and went unbeaten in his first eleven bouts before losing in an upset to Hungarian Zoltan Szabo in 2018 in Germany.

The previous year he had captured the vacant Swiss Light Welterweight title, defeating Cedric Kassongo in Geneva.

In 2019 he missed out on adding the Welterweight national title to his resume, when he was held to a draw by Ricardo Silva.

Since then he has won two, and is now ready for what is arguably his most important fight to date against Fersula.

The Italian is entering new territory, as this will be his first championship fight in the paid ranks. However, he will relish his underdog role against an opponent who has been hot and cold in the past.
