"MARVELOUS" MARVIN HAGLER DESTROYS JOHN "THE BEAST" MUGABI

(IB-March 10, 2010) Today marks the 24th anniversary of arguably the greatest middleweight title fight in the history of boxing.

"Marvelous" Marvin Hagler (62-3-2, 52 KO's) took on Ugandan, John "The Beast" Mugabi (42-7-1, 39 KO's) in Las Vegas in an epic battle that was historical in that it was the first televised fight on the SHOWTIME NETWORK.

Hagler had become legendary in his rise to stardom in the middleweight ranks by defeating notables such as Vito Antuofermo, Alan Minter, Mustafa Hamsho and Roberto Duran.

Before Hagler and Mugabi did battle there was an exciting fight one year before that pitted Hagler against the phnom from Detroit, Michigan, Thomas "The Hit Man" Hearns (61-5-1, 48 KO's). (more)

FLOYD MAYWEATHER, JR: THE P.T. BARNUM OF BOXING
BY STEPHEN S. JOHNSON

(IB-March 4, 2010) P.T. Barnum: "I'm in the business of entertainment. I give people what they want to see and when they want to see it. I want them to go home remembering they sideshow benniedsaw something they'd never seen before. Along the way they are all just really suckers and there are plenty of suckers. "THE GIFT OF GAB" BELONGS TO MAYWEATHER
BY STEPHEN S. JOHNSON

(IB-March 3, 2010) Yesterday afternoon in New York City, the entire world came to a screeching halt as the crowned prince of the  fine art of "bumpin yer gums" took center stage.

Yes, none other than the always self-promoting, never a dull moment producing, one fight out of retirement and proclaiming himself still the "best fighter in the world", Floyd Mayweather, Jr. did his thing.

The counterpart in this opening round of promotions for the May 1st fight featuring Mayweather, Jr. was the maybe too soft spoken Welterweight Champion "Sugar" Shane Mosley. (more)

roachBY STEPHEN S. JOHNSON

In a recent conversation on the "Leave-It-In-The Ring" boxing radio show, Roach became quite upset when the Malignaggi comments were mentioned.

In a prior interview on the LIITR show, Malignaggi stated that "I'd be lying if I said the thought hadn't crossed my mind. I'm not saying Khan is on anything but yeah, it has crossed my mind". (more)

Andre Berto’s Statement on his January 30th Bout

January 18, 2010 - "Since the 7.0 earthquake struck Haiti on Tuesday evening, I have been focusing on my family and the Haitian people who are facing an inconceivable battle for survival while still trying to continue to prepare for an opportunity I have dreamt of since childhood.  I lost several family members to the earthquake and after two days without word, was relieved to learn that my sister, Naomi and her daughter, Jessica survived, but were left homeless. I have seen the pain in my parents’ eyes as they attempt to understand what has happened to our homeland and recognize a place they once called home.

As a result of this disaster, I am mentally and physically exhausted and therefore I have no choice but to withdraw from my bout on January 30.

Throughout the past six days, I have received an incredible outpouring of support, and I sincerely appreciate everyone’s prayers for the people of Haiti. I hope that everyone will continue to keep the Haitian people in their thoughts and prayers as we work to rebuild this proud nation.  The rebuilding of Haiti is not something that will happen overnight, but I am fully dedicated to helping the Haitian people recover from this catastrophic event."
