August 3, 2020 – Tanzanian star Hassan Mwakinyo is set to return on Friday August 14, when he takes on undefeated Congolese Tshibangu Kayembe for the vacant World Boxing Federation (WBF) Intercontinental Super Welterweight title in Dar Es Salaam.
Riding a six-fight winning-streak, Mwakinyo, 16-2 (11), is best known for a 2018 upset victory over former European Champion Sam Eggington in England, but the twenty-five year-old has accomplished much more than that since turning pro in 2015.
Less than a year into his paid career he Tanzanian national Champion, and in February of 2017 he captured the East & Central Africa title. Six months after that, he beat 14-1 Namibian Anthony Jarmann to lift the WBA Pan African belt.
He build on the Eggington-triumph by winning the UBO International title in October of 2018, before staying busy with decent victories over Argentinian Sergio Eduardo Gonzales and Filipino tough-guy Arnel Tinampay in 2019. Now he is ready to go a step further, as he tries to secure the WBF title.
Tshibangu Kayembe, 9-0-3 (3), is a former UBO All-Africa and International titlist, and the 26-year-old will be travelling to Tanzania with ambitions to take his own career to the next level. He is a solid underdog, but he also doesn’t know how to lose.
