(May 26, 2022) – Bragging rights and the vacant World Boxing Federation (WBF) All Africa Lightweight title will be on the line, when local fighters Simiso Buthelezi and Siphesihle Mntungwa collide on June 5 at the Greyville Convention Centre in Durban, South Africa.
Both are from the KwaZulu-Natal province, so support will likely be more or less evenly divided on the night, when Starline Promotions stage a big championship triple-header.
For undefeated Buthelezi, 4-0 (2), it will be his first opportunity to win a title in the professionals, but Mntungwa, 6-1-2 (3), is having his second go at the WBF All Africa belt.
Last March he battled to a draw against Malawian Romeo Makwakwa in Pietermaritzburg, leaving the title vacant. He plans to do one better on June 5, and leave the venue as champion.
Besides Buthelezi vs. Mntungwa for the WBA All Africa Lightweight title, two South African championship fights will be on the card, besides a well-matched undercard.
