Frisco, TX (July 28, 2023) – World Ranked featherweight contender and Fort Worth, TX native, Edward “Kid” Vazquez returns to the ring this Saturday (July 29) when he squares off with Brayan de Gracia for the vacant IBF Intercontinental Featherweight Championship. The card is promoted by hall of fame promoter Lou DiBella’s DiBella entertainment.
Vazquez – de Gracia headlines a 5 bout card which takes place at Riders Field, home of the Frisco Roughriders, AA affiliate of the Texas Rangers. As an added bonus, after the main event fans in attendance can watch the most anticipated fight in years featuring local favorite Errol Spence Jr. versus Terence Crawford for the undisputed welterweight championship – live on the largest jumbotron in minor league baseball!
Managed by DKO Boxing, Vazquez recently signed a promotional agreement with DiBella Entertainment and this will be his first bout under DiBella Entertainment’s promotional banner.
Currently ranked 10th in the world by the IBF, Vazquez, who has an impressive record of 14-1, has been rapidly moving up the ranks in the featherweight division. In his last bout, February 17th, Vazquez earned a hard fought decision victory over Misael Lopez (14-1) in a bout that was nationally televised on Showtime’s ShoBox, The New Generation. It was another step in the Kid’s quest towards his first World Title opportunity. Vazquez has also defeated highly regarded prospects Viktor Slavinskyi (13-1-1), Irvin Gonzalez (14-2), Adan Ochoa (11-1) and Brandon Cruz (6-0). The lone blemish on Vazquez’s ledger is a highly controversial decision loss to Raymond Ford (currently ranked: WBA 2, IBF 5, WBO 8 and WBC 15) in which Ford’s own promoter, Eddie Hearn, stated that Ford was lucky to get the decision and that Vazquez won the fight. The consensus from ringside and around the world was that Vazquez was the clear victor.
An impressive showing versus de Gracia will further cement Vazquez’s spot in the world rankings. The power punching de Gracia comes into the contest with an impressive record of 29-2-1 (25 KO’s). The native of Panama has scored stoppages in his last 12 victories.
