(July 29, 2023) – Two World Boxing Federation (WBF) championship fights headlined a show promoted by another WBF champion, World Middleweight titlist Charles Manyushi, on Friday night, July 28, at Chivhu Lodge in Harare, Zimbabwe.
Local WBF International Lightweight champion Evans Husayihwevhu made his first defense of the title he won last Summer, but was upset by underdog Malawian challenger Israel Kammwamba.
Husayihwevhu was dropped in the second round and thoroughly dominated throughout the entire fight, as the very underrated Kammwamba was excellent and likely fought the fight of his life.
Judges Reinforcement Matasva, Virimayi Mandaza and Kingston Jakonya scored the fight 98-91, 97-92 and 96-93 for Kammwamba, who improved his professional record to 13-10-1 (8). Husayihwevhu drops to 14-2 (7).
In the co-feature Tinashe Mwadziwana beat Yobe Kamnyonya, also from Malawi, to lift the vacant WBF All Africa Super Featherweight crown.
Mwadziwana was simply too big and strong, and referee Patrick Mkondiwa had seen enough already in round two as he waved things off to prevent further punishment.
Mwadziwana is now 18-14 (11) since turning pro in 2006. Kamnyonya falls to 9-9 (1).
