More Than 30 Boxing Federations Officially Confirm Their Support for Umar Kremlev’s Candidacy for AIBA President

December 8th, 2020 – The leading candidate in the presidential election for the International Amateur Boxing Association (AIBA), Umar Kremlev, has received official letters of support from over 30 national federations. These include Hungary, Colombia, Poland, Serbia, Slovenia, Montenegro, Venezuela, Belarus, Laos, Georgia, Cambodia, Ukraine, Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Madagascar, Brunei, Saint Lucia, and Trinadad and Tobago. In total, according to the Russian Boxing Federation, more than 60% of participating countries support Umar Kremlev to be the next AIBA president.

The election will be held at AIBA’s next congress on December 12-13. Support for Kremlev’s candidature has grown in the past two months, with national federations seeing his leadership qualities as necessary to solve the problems at AIBA, both in terms of finance and reputation.

In their letters of support, members of the world boxing community have expressed confidence in Kremlev’s proven track record as Secretary General of the Russian Boxing Federation, where he has restored and developed boxing in Russia in less than 4 years. The use of the best practices that have proven their effectiveness in Russia is expected to allow world boxing to reach a new level of development in the interests of athletes, coaches and national boxing federations.

Umar Kremlev has presented an ambitious manifesto to attract more than $50 million to AIBA for the development of boxing, with AIBA’s debts being paid off within six months. He has also promised to restore AIBA’s recognition by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) through the comprehensive and prompt implementation of reforms.
