‘Scorpion’ Ready To Sting, Take WBF International Title

(December 17, 2020) – Nigerian national Champion Ridwan “Scorpion” Oyekola will face Argentinian Lucas Matias Montesino for the vacant World Boxing Federation International Super Featherweight title on Sunday December 27 in Ibadan, Nigeria.

With unified World Heavyweight Champion Anthony Joshua, who has Nigerian roots, reportedly a special guest in attendance, the fight will headline a show promoted by Core Afrique Boxing Promotions at the Ilaji Hotel & Sports Resort.

And it looks, certainly on paper, to be a very evenly matched and explosive encounter. The 23-year-old local hero is 6-1-1 (5) as a professional, and Montesino, also 23, brings a 7-2-1 (6) ledger to the party. That’s eleven stoppages in thirteen combined victories!

Oyekola captured the Nigerian domestic title in April of 2019 with a first round demolition of Taofik Bisuga, while Montesino came up short in his sole championship fight to date when he fought undefeated Jose Hugo Acevedo for Argentinian and South American Lightweight belts last December.

So Oyekola should probably be considered a slight favourite, but, as history has taught us, anything can happen when two punchers clash.
